The document reads: “On the first anniversary of His Majesty’s death and accession, we fondly remember his long life, faithful service, and what he meant to many of us. I am deeply indebted to you for the love and support you have given me and my wife throughout this year as we have done everything in our power to serve all of you worthyly.
During the day, the country will host various events dedicated to the memory of the late Queen, one of which will be attended by the new monarch.
Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 8, 2022. His funeral was moved to London with a stopover in Edinburgh. The Queen’s coffin was displayed at the Palace of Westminster from September 14-19, where more than 250,000 people accompanied her to her final rest. The burial place was the George VI Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle, near London, where her husband, Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, and her father and mother, George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, were buried, as well as her sister Margaret.
The throne passed to the Queen’s eldest son, Charles, who took the name Charles III. In fact, and legally, the Prince of Wales became king at the time of his mother’s death because tradition does not allow for a country without a monarch. The grand coronation, however, did not take place until May 6, as is customary.
