Nutritionist lists types of meat and fish that can be eaten raw

Raw, you can eat veal, lamb and sea fish of the salmon family. Nutritionist Maria Kapralova told this to socialbites.ca.

“According to the norms of the Ministry of Health, meat must be subjected to heat treatment in order to destroy the pathogenic environment. Extremely dangerous diseases that can be transmitted from raw meat are hepatitis E, E. coli, salmonella, annelids and others,” he explained.

The nutritionist explained that the most “safe” types of meat that can be consumed raw are beef and lamb.

“If you like raw meat and know how to prepare or marinate it correctly, it’s better to give preference to beef and lamb, but you should refuse raw pork and poultry,” he said.

Regarding raw fish, Kapralova warned against consuming freshwater species.

The doctor said, “It is strictly forbidden to eat raw fish, as it may contain many parasites, bacteria and viruses that live in fresh water, namely in ponds, lakes and rivers, which are not safe for human health.”

The nutritionist added that thanks to the salt water, fish living in the seas and oceans are practically not susceptible to infection.

“It is allowed to eat raw fish from the salmon family (salmon, trout and pink salmon). You can also eat fish such as tuna, sea bass, dorado and marlin if they have been previously subjected to shock freezing, which kills the pathogenic environment.”
