A Shanghai resident named Liu said he would never have thought his pet had eaten rubber duckies from his collection had he not noticed that several toys were missing. He nevertheless decided to take the dog to the vet and was horrified when the doctors X-rayed the dog’s stomach and found at least five toys inside. The French Bulldog was immediately taken to surgery and 11 plastic toys were removed from his stomach.

Pet Educate warns that rubber toys, including those sold in pet stores, can be extremely dangerous for dogs. Signs that a dog has ingested a trinket are restlessness, shortness of breath, choking and bloating.

“In some cases, rubber does not harm the dog, but more often it can cause choking or blockage of the digestive tract. If your dog has eaten a piece of plastic toy, contact your veterinarian immediately. The degree of danger your dog faces if he ingests a piece of rubber toy depends on the size of the piece, the type of tire and the size of your dog.
