Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancee, TV host Lauren Sanchez, will set up a fund to help the Hawaiian island of Maui, which has been affected by wildfires. Lauren Sanchez told subscribers of her personal blog on Instagram (the owner of Meta was considered an extremist in Russia and was banned).

“Jeff and I are establishing a $100 million Maui Foundation to restore the island of Maui. Our thoughts are with all the families and devastated society who have lost so much,” Lauren Sanchez said in a statement.

The billionaire’s fiancée added that it “broke their hearts” after the fire on the island of Hawaii.

Subscribers, including many celebrities, Lauren Sanchez thanked the couple for their generosity.

On August 8, fires broke out on Maui, the second largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago, due to strong winds from Hurricane Dora. The city of Lahaina in the west of the island suffered the most. According to local authorities, the fire has already destroyed more than 1,700 homes and residents had to be evacuated to temporary shelters.

On August 10, US President Joe Biden described what happened in Maui as a “major disaster” and ordered funding from the budget to combat the consequences of the elements.
