Conglomerate LVMH announces massive reduction in water consumption

Luxury goods group LVMH has announced its intention to reduce water consumption by 30%. This commitment needs to be realized by 2030. writes about it WWD.

The company also announced that it will offer “a goal of reducing the impact on water consumption and improving the quality of discharges to nature” by the end of 2023.

To reduce water consumption and reduce the negative impact on the environment, the company “develops specific action plans in water-scarce areas, borrows from it and restores the natural environment, and supports local populations.” Other initiatives include the use of the most efficient wastewater recycling technologies.

Today, LVMH’s busiest water operations include mining, vineyard irrigation, alligator farms and tanneries in Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and California.

Clothing production also requires large amounts of water. In 2019, the UN Conference on Trade and Development report estimated that the industry uses around 93 billion cubic meters of water per year.
