Sophie, the wife of Prince Edward, Duchess of Edinburgh, made an unannounced visit to Iraq due to security concerns. It has been reported daily mail.
The trip was organized at the request of the UK Department of Foreign Affairs and International Development to support the Women, Peace and Security programme.
Duchess Sophie spent two days in Baghdad interacting with young girls and women as part of her advocacy work. She attended various events and met with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid and his wife, to whom the representative of the British royal family conveyed a message from Charles III.
In addition, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited the girls’ high school to talk to teachers and students about education and future prospects in their country.
The program of the visit also included a visit to the Family Planning Center and a meeting with women entrepreneurs.
