The green island, which covers approximately 10 hectares, has no houses but a pebbly beach and a flood pond.

To reach the island, a buyer from the United States will need to fly into Glasgow and then travel to the nearest Gatehouse of Fleet city within two hours. From there, Barlocco can be reached by boat, at low tide – by all-terrain vehicle or on foot along a rocky road.

The journey to the island will not be easy for the British. The nearest train station in Dumfries is about an hour’s bus ride from the Gatehouse of Fleet.

Aaron Edgar, the agent behind the island’s sale, said he was optimistic.

“There’s still a very romantic feeling about having your own Scottish island where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the peace and quiet surrounded by beautiful scenery,” she said.
