Ghanaian artist Obrafour claims he stole one of Drake’s songs and used it without permission on his own 2022 track Calling My Name. writes about it daily mail.
The new lawsuit alleges that a week before the song was released, a member of Drake’s team sent an email asking permission to use the sample. However, when the album was released, Obrafour did not allow it. His lawyer, Imran H. Ansari, stated that he was “surprised” at the unauthorized use of the musician’s work.
“Honestly, this is humiliating, especially for an artist who is a popular musician in his home country and takes pride in the creative work he has created,” Ansari said.
Obrafour is seeking at least $10 million in damages, citing “all profits and losses in categories of copyright infringement”, including album sales, downloads, sponsorships, streaming and concert earnings, which Drake gave after the song’s release.
