When planning a pregnancy, it makes sense to freeze not one egg, but 10-15 eggs. This was told socialbites.ca by an obstetrician-gynecologist, medical director of the Fomin Clinic Tatyana Rumyantseva.

“It is important to take into account that not all eggs can be thawed normally. Therefore, it is usually recommended to freeze not one egg, but 10-15, to compensate for possible losses during thawing, fertilization and rearing of embryos,” explained Tatyana Rumyantseva.

According to the doctor, oocyte freezing is most successful before age 30 – “both in terms of egg count and subsequent fertilization.”

“But after the age of 35, this procedure is also possible, but it happens that one stimulation is not enough to freeze more than one oocyte. The obstetrician-gynecologist noted that in order to “accumulate” the required number of oocytes, you need to carry out repeated stimulations.

The doctor explained that egg freezing is used by women who want to get pregnant when they are ready.

Rumyantseva said, “This procedure goes to the in vitro fertilization program, that is, ovarian stimulation and egg collection are performed, but these eggs cannot be fertilized, they are immediately frozen.”

Shelf life of cryopreserved oocytes is not limited.
