The South Korean government has launched a program to support young people who live a secluded life and stay at home. To help them socialize, the state will pay a monthly allowance of 650,000 won, equivalent to about 40,000 rubles. These release reports first post.
The monthly allowance will be given to teenagers and adolescents aged 9 to 24 who experience serious discomfort when communicating with others. This is part of a socialization program for people who voluntarily choose to isolate from society, called “hikikomori” in Japanese. It is supposed to make it easier for them to go to school or work and help them visit cultural institutions.
Documents released by the government regarding the measures taken show that 40% of youth living in seclusion chose self-isolation when they were young, and many come from poor families.
