British designer Mary Quant, best known for inventing the mini skirt, has died in England at the age of 93. It has been reported daily mail.
“The 93-year-old Horsewoman Mary was one of the most famous designers on the world stage of the 20th century and an outstanding inventor of the Swinging 60s,” family members said in a statement.
They reported that the holder of the Order of the British Empire passed away peacefully at his home in Surrey.
Mary Quant, the daughter of Welsh teachers, began designing clothes in the 1950s. Considered a revolutionary in the fashion world who laid the foundations of the ’60s aesthetic—she introduced purse dresses, shiny leggings, tight-fitting trousers, tight noodle turtlenecks, in addition to mini-skirts.
Mary Quant’s Bazaar, a clothing store on King’s Road in London, became a fashion pilgrimage destination in the 1960s and has since grown into a major international brand.
This year Mary Quant presented To the Order of Honor for his outstanding achievements in British fashion.
