Silicones, alcohol, dihydroxyacetone (DHA), mineral oil, petroleum jelly and paraffin used in cosmetics can damage the skin. This was told socialbites.ca by cosmetologist Oksana Chashchina, deputy chief of aesthetic medicine and dermatovenereology at Atlas clinics.
“First of all, it is worth refusing to use cosmetics with silicone. The beautician explained that these ingredients “clog pores” and are often the cause of skin inflammation.
Alcohol and dihydroxyacetone (DHA) are also undesirable ingredients in cosmetics.
“The main disadvantage of alcohol is that it dries the skin. It is especially undesirable to use alcohol-containing cosmetics for seborrheic dermatitis, acne, eczema, rosacea. And dihydroxyacetone is often added to tanning products. It causes drying of the skin and can even cause an allergic reaction,” warned Chashchina.
According to the beautician, mineral oils, paraffin, petroleum jelly cause dry skin and the formation of comedones.
“Actually, these substances are oil refining products. They form an impenetrable film on the skin and interfere with the normal functioning of the skin,” explained the doctor.
