Spanish airline may face fine for makeup requirements for flight attendants

The Catalan government’s Labor Commission has recommended that Spanish airline Vueling be fined for dress and make-up requirements for flight attendants. It has been reported El Periodico.

According to the publication, Vueling flight attendants are forced to wear high heels between 5 and 8 cm and make up with the obligatory use of foundation, eyeliner and black mascara. Also, girls are not allowed to create eyelashes of “artificial length” and use eyeshadows of any shade other than light gray or light beige. At the same time, the requirements for male stewardesses are limited only to the need to have a “clean and tidy appearance”.

Stavla union reportedly filed a complaint with workers’ officials about the airline, as the Catalan authority felt that Vueling could achieve a corporate image “in a less burdensome and more balanced way” without affecting employees’ fundamental rights.
