Artist Yegor Levko told socialbites.ca how to choose a painting as a gift and not make a mistake.
Levko called photographic portraits, as well as paintings from underground passages, a bad gift.
“What I would definitely not recommend is to provide picture-photo portraits that can be found in the first link on any search engine. Frankly, they look terrifying. And I think they have nothing to do with art. Also, don’t buy paintings at an underpass or other place that isn’t very suitable for displaying and selling paintings. You can take pity on the artist and buy yourself a painting, but definitely not as a gift,” he explained.
The artist advised the recipient to ask what kind of painting they would like to receive, or to use the services of professionals.
“Many contemporary artists sell reproductions, copies, prints and posters of their works. You can peruse this niche to make the surprise original. It is better to go in the direction of uniqueness, not in the direction of “wealth” and golden frames,” Levko added.
