One of the (already declining) trends in horror cinema these years has been movies about aging: ‘Relic’ (2020), ‘The Dark and the Wicked’ (2020), ‘Grandma’ (2021), ‘The mansion’ (2021), or “X” (2022). It has been used to create nightmares that outline in many cases. thoughts on the passage of time, fear of aging, obsession with youth, addiction, dementia, or care. The second joint film of Raúl Cerezo and Fernando González Gómez joins this trend, but it is better to think that there is no desire to think about old age because if we analyze it from there, it is unsustainable.
works best assuming extremely funny horror proposal. They have stimulating things like that, like entertainment. In the new film from the directors of ‘La pasajera’ (2021), an overconfidence in revelation is felt at the end. But an effective ending doesn’t (or doesn’t always do) a movie well, and the path to that ending is very uneven. “Viejos” lacks real horror scenes and situations that have a specific identity and rhythm. And there is a definite confusion between what is truly offensive and what is simply rude or ugly. Despite this, there is an obvious qualitative leap between the directors’ previous film and ‘The Old Men’. It manifests itself in the staging (the ominous quality of buildings anchored in the past) and, above all, in the creation of a coherent atmosphere that conveys the warm writing of the story.
