Overloads, injuries, damage to the meniscus structure, joint instability, cartilage thinning can cause knee pain. Vasily Stroganov, a traumatologist-orthopedist at the Atlas clinic, told socialbites.ca about this.

According to the doctor, pain is always a sign that a problem has arisen in the body that needs to be eliminated.

“Knee pain can have many causes. If it is due only to overload, you need to adjust the mode of operation and rest or reconsider your diet. Inflammation can also develop after prolonged exertion,” he explained.

Among other causes of knee pain, the doctor named injuries, damage to the structure of the meniscus and ligaments.

“A meniscus injury is the most common injury to the knee joint and can occur even in everyday situations, such as when descending stairs, with forced flexion, not to mention playing sports,” said the traumatologist.

Another serious cause of knee pain is cartilage thinning. As Stroganov explains, this happens with arthrotic changes when a thorough examination is required to determine the cause of joint damage—biomechanical overload or injury.

“If knee pain persists for a long time or occurs frequently, do not delay a visit to an orthopedic traumatologist. After the examination, the doctor may recommend an X-ray or MRI.”
