People who are prone to develop deficiencies of essential vitamins and minerals in the body should be examined by a doctor beforehand if they plan to perform the Great Fast. This was told socialbites.ca by Anna Barteneva, an endocrinologist and nutritionist at the Nearmedic clinic in Simonovsky Val.
“For patients who predispose to the development of various deficiencies, such as excess weight, gastrointestinal pathology, organ donation, chronic blood loss, old age, pregnancy, I advise you to consult a doctor and, if necessary, consult a doctor before deciding whether to fast or not. , further investigation and choice of supportive treatment,” said Anna Barteneva.
He recalled that during Lent all animal products, including eggs and dairy products, were excluded from the diet, so there was a risk of developing a deficiency.
The endocrinologist advised to diversify their menu for those who have not previously had any problems with iron deficiency or other trace elements.
“I advise to diversify the diet as much as possible and saturate it with foods rich not only in iron, but also in other macro- and microelements. Eat a lot of vegetables and fruits (preferably at least 500 g per day, of various colors), do not forget about whole grains and legumes, ”concluded Anna Barteneva.
