Winemakers in France’s Bordeaux region are demanding compensation from the government for oversold wine they will have to dump. It has been reported Guard.

According to the winery owners, the demand and prices for their products collapsed due to the French overproduction and changing consumption habits.

Wine consumption in France is said to have fallen by two-thirds over the past 60 years. This was especially true for red wine. That’s why a study conducted in November last year showed that the amount of red drunk has decreased by 32% in the last 10 years, with most of those refusing to drink 18 to 35 years old.

This is because red meat consumption has decreased, the number of people eating dinner with the family has decreased, and the number of single-parent households that do not drink alone is increasing.

In addition, the soft drink market in France is growing rapidly.

Didier Cousinez, spokesperson for Gironde wineries, said about a third of the 4,000 wineries in the region are facing challenges.

“If I make wine, good or bad, I can’t sell it. People are drinking other drinks. “They prefer beer or soda to wine,” he said.

Winemakers in Bordeaux are offering to close 10% of their 15,000 hectares of vineyards and are demanding €10,000 compensation from the government for every hectare destroyed.

Previously reporteddesigner Brunello Cucinelli began producing wine.
