Many fans disliked the serial adaptation The Last of Us when they learned that Bella Ramsey had been chosen to play Ellie. The girl is criticized for her appearance, which is far from the usual image. The actress recently admitted in an interview with The New York Times that negative comments have greatly undermined her self-esteem.
According to Ramsey, she became addicted to doom scrolling at some point and was able to read comments about her appearance for long periods of time. This led the celebrity to stop believing the positive reviews.
This was the first time I experienced a backlash. […] Only recently have I accepted that I’m Ellie, that I can do it and that I’m a good actress. But in a few weeks it will pass and I’ll go back to thinking I’m terrible. It’s just such a process.
At the same time, the show’s creators Craig Mazin (Craig Mazin) and Neil Druckmann (Neil Druckmann) consider Bella Ramsey to be the best Ellie of them all. According to Mazin, the actress often looked insecure on set, but once filming started, she immediately recovered.
