Rolls from Japanese restaurants can be offered to children of preschool age. Pediatric gastroenterologist Ruslana Mukhtasarova, a nutritionist at the NEARMEDIC clinic in Simonovsky Val, told socialbites.ca about this.
“The average age to meet roles is 5-7. It is necessary so that the child can chew food well enough,” said Ruslana Mukhtasarova.
The doctor warned that children can only eat rolls if they do not contain raw food.
“Rolls are acceptable if they don’t contain raw and unprocessed products and are ideally made in your own kitchen in accordance with cooking technologies and sanitary standards,” said the pediatric gastroenterologist.
He added that sushi made from raw fish should not be given to children.
“Children are prohibited from eating fish and meat products and seafood that have not undergone adequate heat treatment. There is a risk of infection with various helminths,” warned Ruslana Mukhtasarova.
Also, spicy foods such as wasabi and ginger are not recommended as they can cause digestive upset.
According to the doctor, raw fish is dangerous not only in terms of parasites, but also in terms of heavy metals it may contain. In addition, the nutritionist warned that fish and seafood are included in the “golden eight” of allergens.
He concluded that sushi and rolls can only be eaten fresh.
“Otherwise there is a risk of contamination with various pathogenic microorganisms,” said the doctor.
