Rihanna’s lingerie brand Savage x Fenty has agreed to pay $1.2 million in a lawsuit filed by customers who sued her for failing to provide information about payments from her loyalty program. It has been reported WWD.
The lawsuits were filed by law firms in three California counties in August 2022. They said the brand did not inform customers about the normal fee charged to holders of club VIP cards. Also, the brand did not approve for regular payments. In addition, the plaintiffs allege that the fashion house misrepresented the prices of its products and the way its stores used credit cards.
“Consumers have a right to know in advance what they are paying for and how often. “Entrepreneurs need to be transparent about automatic recurring payments,” said Jennifer Deng, Assistant Attorney General of Santa Clara.
The plaintiffs’ justification for filing a lawsuit is the repeated payments collected after the card was opened, despite not making any new purchases. Customers who later terminated the brand’s loyalty program membership could not get their money back.
According to court documents, representatives of the brand collaborated with the courts to modify the information on their website, adding a warning about recurring payments under the loyalty program.
The total amount that the brand will pay will be $ 1.2 million, $ 1 million in administrative fines, $ 50,000 in legal costs, and customers affected by the actions of Savage x Fenty representatives will receive $ 150,000.
