The use of folk remedies and pharmacy drops for ear pain can lead to serious complications. Svetlana Zimina, an otolaryngologist in the Atlas clinical network, told socialbites.ca about this.
“You can’t infuse the juice of various vegetables, camphor oil, warm your ear dry or wet – all this can lead to a deterioration of the situation,” said Zimina.
According to the otolaryngologist, with earache you can not only use folk remedies, but also pharmacy drugs. “Also, you should not infuse pharmaceutical products without knowing the cause of the pain. For example, if the eardrum is damaged, some drops should definitely not be used.
“If you are sure that you have a foreign object or sulfur plug in your ear, do not try to remove them yourself with various objects: tweezers, cotton swab, matches, needles, etc. This will lead to further trauma to the ear canal and eardrum.”
Zimina recommends taking a pain reliever and seeing a doctor right away in case of earache. “The doctor will determine the cause of the pain and prescribe treatment. Otalgia can manifest itself if various otitis media, eustachianitis, as well as sulfur plugs, ear injuries, foreign objects in the ear canal, trauma or diseases of the temporomandibular joint, ear neoplasms, neuralgia, ”the doctor said.
