According to eyewitnesses, a man and a woman in their 40s told airport staff that they were flying to Rome to get married there. However, after checking in for the flight, when the groom, probably British, left the bride to go to the bathroom to look at her belongings, the woman fled with all the bags.
The man told airport staff that he had received the £5,000 he had set aside for the wedding.
“It was shattered – it was completely inconsolable. It turned out that they met quite recently, and she was crazy about him, ”said an eyewitness to the incident.
As it turned out, the man made an offer on the eve of departure.
The woman has not yet been found.
“Employees looked everywhere – he disappeared. It was unclear whether he was flying to another country or even leaving the airport. Eventually, the police were called. By that time, they were beginning to doubt that he had given his real name,” he said.
London Police confirmed that an investigation has been opened. However, no arrests have been made yet.
