The volume of fake products on the cosmetology market in Russia has increased. Irina Filatova, a deputy of the State Duma of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, spoke about this.
Filatova participated in a discussion on “Safe Beauty” held during the IV Russian Pharmaceutical Forum “Medicine Safety” at SPIEF-2024.
“According to statistics for 2023, of 40 billion rubles of the official turnover of pharmaceuticals and medical products in the field of aesthetic cosmetology, 20 billion rubles are the gray market, that is, exactly half. And it is constantly increasing,” said Filatova.
According to the MP, 57% of patients are not sure they can recognize fake products. Anna Dycheva-Smirnova, general director of EXPOVISIONRUS, organizer of InterCHARM and moderator of the discussion at SPIEF-2024, agreed with this statement. Dycheva-Smirnova added that it is incredibly difficult for even a professional beautician or doctor to distinguish a fake from an original.
Experts concluded that one of the reasons for the growth of the gray market in the field of cosmetology is the free sale of banned and restricted drugs and medical products in recognized markets.
“Situations have become more frequent when ordinary girls buy injectable drugs (mostly fake ones) on digital platforms, but they do not know what is in them and give themselves beauty injections, which leads to unpleasant consequences,” Filatova said.
Previously reportedHe said the Russians administer 7.5 million injections a year.
