‘The history of sitcoms’: Are you from ‘Seinfeld’ or ‘Friends’?

According to the press at the time, Jerry Seinfeld was about to save Frank Sinatra’s life. On May 14, 1998, 76 million people stood in front of the television and watched the series end in which nothing happened. The streets of Los Angeles were cleared of cars between eight and ten o’clock at night, so that the ambulance carrying the “singer” could travel at full speed without encountering any traffic jams. The artist did not survive the heart attack that sent him to the hospital, but if the comedy had continued on the air, the scriptwriters would probably have joked about the anecdote. By the time the news broke, Jerry Seinfeld had already said the final words of the final episode, and curiously, they were the words that began the pilot episode: “The second button makes the shirt look good or bad on you.”
