Zayatsky Islands, Manpupuner and other natural monuments are among the 5 most mystical places in Russia. socialbites.ca reviewed the rating offered by the KION online cinema and the MTS Travel service.
The Zayatsky Islands are part of the archipelago in the White Sea, not far from Solovetsky Island, where oppressed people in the USSR were deported. More than 30 labyrinths have been preserved on the territory, 13 of them are located on Bolshoi Zayatsky Island.
“They were built about 3-5 thousand years ago by representatives of the indigenous Sami people. Debates continue about the purpose of the structures. There are versions that these were astronomical calendars or places of worship,” said the authors of the rating.
Also at the top was Manpupuner in the Komi Republic – seven stone columns 42 meters high, considered one of the seven wonders of Russia.
Additionally, experts identified two sites in the Caucasus: Dargavs in North Ossetia and Dolmens in the Western Caucasus.
The small village of Dargavs is famous for the stone structures found here, some of which date back to the 14th century. Dolmens of the Western Caucasus are huge stone slabs with round holes in the middle.
“Researchers determined that they are approximately 2-4 thousand years old. “Dolmens are generally believed to have healing powers and legends are formed around them,” he says.
The rating is completed with the Dyatlov Pass in the Sverdlovsk region.
