“Like homework”: why do you wear face masks?

Face masks act conditionally in three different ways. As thalassotherapist Aleksey Zagatin, a methodologist at Thalasso Bretagne, explains, there are those that improve the psycho-emotional state and mood, when you want to take time for yourself and enjoy the procedure, there are masks that “work for aesthetics and dissolve it every day. skin problems” – for example, to even out the tone or relieve puffiness – and, finally, there are professional tools whose task is to improve the skin after surgical interventions or hardware procedures.

“There are simple masks that are needed to have a good time watching a TV show, but there are also face masks that really work on the skin and give a good effect. Of course you will get a more effective effect from the procedures, but the masks are like homework to support the result from them. And face masks is the prevention of many skin ailments. You can not refuse them, they must be in the diet from youth, “she believes.

According to the dermatovenereologist, beautician Elina Manuilova, international trainer of the Rhea brand, masks are more of an addition to the basic facial care, and their main task is to enhance the effect of other procedures and diversify them.

The doctor recommends having several different masks in a cosmetic bag and using them according to the needs of the skin. For example, exfoliate, cleanse, lift and replace them throughout the week.

“It is important to remember that the mask suitable for your skin type and condition will work best. If the skin is prone to dryness, moisturizing and nourishing products work best, if it is irritated – masks with a calming effect for sensitive skin, shine masks work perfectly on dull skin with signs of fatigue, ”says the doctor .

Elina Manuylova is confident that, for example, masks will cope with the task of deep cleansing the pores better than other cosmetic products. The doctor recommends choosing products based on clays, activated charcoal or mask film with a cleansing effect, which will work on the principle of adsorption and remove impurities from the pores. Apply these masks to areas of the skin that are prone to inflammation, with enlarged pores and comedones.

“Make-up needs to be cleansed from the skin first, and I also recommend doing a light superficial exfoliating peel to remove the accumulation of dead cells on the skin surface. This will allow the absorbent mask to more easily pull the dirt out of the pores. It should generally be 10-15 minutes to leave such products on the skin, then the residues should be washed with water or the film mask should be removed.

Natalya Tokmakova, cosmetologist, brand specialist [ comfort zone ] believes that with the help of masks it will not be possible to achieve deep cleansing – the fact is that all cleansing masks work only at the level of the stratum corneum of the epidermis and at the mouths of the pores.

“It would be more accurate to talk about different purification mechanisms and choose tools accordingly. “The most relevant today are regenerative (with acids or enzymes) and absorbent (with clay, charcoal and rice powder),” he says.

Elina Manuylova offers to keep the skin clean with masks based on enzymes or fruit acids.

According to him, such masks should be applied twice a week to prevent the accumulation of pollutants in the skin pores. In addition, these masks moisturize the skin well and help to improve the complexion. The doctor recommends paying attention to masks with cleansing complexes based on hydroxy acids, as well as products containing mint and eucalyptus oils.

According to Manuilova, sheet masks work differently: their task is not to “pull” pollution, but rather to saturate the skin with certain active ingredients.

“The basis of such masks also “locks” moisture in the skin and helps assets penetrate deeper,” says the expert.

Natalya Tokmakova adds that sheet masks are good because they contain a large amount of moisturizing components in their composition, and also because of their shape, they create a very moist environment, so it is possible not to dry the skin during cleansing.

You can also find “beauty masks” or “going out” masks in the assortment of cosmetic stores. Manufacturers position them as a way to achieve an instant transformative effect.

“They often contain vitamin complexes, especially vitamin C, as well as refreshing or decongestant ingredients such as mint and chestnut extract. There are products with peptides and moisturizing complexes – hyaluronic acid, algae or aloe extracts, ”says Manuylova.

According to Natalya Tokmakova, a wow effect can be expected from acid masks: they are soft with gluconolactone or lactic acid, and more active with glycolic acid. A mask with hyaluronic acid will quickly moisturize the skin, and a mask with clay will get rid of excess shine.

“It is very good to use masks with different effects in sequence: for example, after a cleansing acid, enzyme or clay, make a moisturizing or nourishing antioxidant,” says the beautician.

Cosmetic stores sell face masks with various effects. Manufacturers promise: masks will moisturize and relieve dryness, cope with inflammation, redness and even smooth out wrinkles. Is this really so, and is it worth waiting for a miraculous effect from a face mask for a conditional 100 rubles? socialbites.ca spoke to doctors and learned how face masks work and whether we should expect a wow effect from them.
