Eight well-known artists (Ana Belén, Antonio Carmona, Carlos Goñi, Diego Torres, Sole Giménez, Víctor Manuel, Ainhoa Arteta and Poveda himself) and many other great young voices (Antonio José, La Cebolla, Agoney, Chema Rivas) will be featured in the competition. , Marta Soto, Nía, Paul Alone, and Yoly Saa) blindly form duos to conquer the public performance pieces that have become part of the musical memory of several generations.
This is his new project on TVE-1 after touring Spain with Soleá Morente last year with the documentary series ‘Caminos del flamenco’. ‘Incredible Duets’ by Juan y Medio was recorded with live music by a large group of 23 musicians. The winners of the competition will receive 25,000 euros to allocate to an NGO.
What did you like about the project that agreed to participate?
Being able to meet and learn with artists such as Ana Belén, Víctor Manuel, Antonio Carmona, Carlos Goñi and Soledad Jiménez… Sharing music with singers from another generation, interpreting legendary songs and new ones.
You’ve already broken the mold in flamenco by combining different styles and interpreting other rhythms from around the world, but has a program like ‘Incredible Duos’ allowed you to try other music genres further?
It’s a challenge because you don’t always choose the songs or who you sing them with. It’s an uncomfortable challenge for me and my colleagues, but it’s also a challenge that I know I’ll learn a lot from.
What is the biggest challenge ‘The Incredible Duo’ presents to you?
Learn two or three songs that aren’t in my repertoire each week and live by their composer and the artists who sang them.
For example, what would you do if you had to sing reggaeton in the show?
Try to be nice and turn it to take it to my field.
What style of music has cost you the most?
If you want to achieve perfection, all music has its difficulties, it is not easy to achieve. Flamenco is one of the most complex music genres I know, but it’s also a place where I feel at home.
There are people who may think that flamenco artists have a hard time adjusting to other genres. What would you say to them?
On the contrary, it is more difficult for a singer to sing por soleá, for example.
The program also gives you the opportunity to sing with young artists. What do you gain from playing with them?
Freshness, precision and, of course, growth, because most of the participants in the program have incredible talents.
In recent years, television music programs have often been reduced to competitions and ‘talent shows’. Do you think that music is not valued enough on Spanish television?
In the case of Televisión Española, there are quite a few music, dance and cultural programs in general, something that is not so often found on other channels. I congratulate the young and old singers of our country for keeping the music alive in ‘prime time’.

Do you see yourself on the show to analyze your performances? Do you criticize yourself too much?
Yes, I will see, I will enjoy and I will suffer, because I am sure I will take many faults. But we put in a lot of love, and sharing and defending the great songs of our history prevailed.
Many artists have experienced stage fright. Has it ever happened to you?
It’s a living space where I feel comfortable despite the nerves and responsibility, not so far.

Of course I wouldn’t have to feel it, but what I’m most proud of are the beautiful values my parents instilled in me.

And why not? I am Catalan, I love the poets of my country and had the great support of two flamenco geniuses, Enrique Morente and Juan Habichuela, who were born in Granada.
Can you do flamenco in Catalan?
Each music has its own characteristics and I can’t quite see it, but you can add your own voice to a composition in Catalan like I did in ‘Desglaç’.
