Actress Dunia Rodríguez from ‘Vis a vis’ joined the short film as the Witch of the Sea, representing Sirena’s fears and insecurities, while influencers Charlie Sarriá and Nerea Pascual joined as Prince and his girlfriend.
Post production ended in May 2021 and after a year in distribution with “Glasses Distribution”, it was selected at different national and international festivals. Visual Buit from Alicante province won the production award and the best LGTBI short film award at the Rodeo Film Festival in 2021.
‘Yo, Sirena’ is the second project of this Alicante director after the movie. The short film “Halloween Night”, released in 2016. “I wanted to do something completely different, ‘Halloween Night’ was a short film that focused entirely on the script, and it was the script and the dialogues of the two protagonists that guided the development of the story. With ‘Yo, mermaid’ I wanted it to be the other way around, and it was imagery and visual aesthetics that guided the development of the narrative”, Augusto assures.
