Everyone is clear that there are three Tricicles: handsome, bald and chubby. But few will know that Carles Sans is the first of a trio formed with Paco Mir and Joan Gràcia. A project that has made millions of people all over the world laugh without saying a word for over 40 years. Today, on an almost permanent hiatus from the company that made him famous, Carles Sans said, “Finally alone!” returned to the scene, but this time to not mute a single detail on the boards for over 40 years. It can be seen at the Teatro Principal in Alicante from September 9-11.
“Finally Alone!” where does it come from?
This work is the result of Tricicle’s decision to hang our boots after 40 years of silence after our success. At that moment, I asked myself if I wanted to continue on stage. So basically this is where this show comes in with an ironic title.
What can the public expect when the curtain rises?
It is a work that I do not give up on telling anecdotes that have been experienced throughout my 40 years of professional life. From how we met Tricicle to other personal ones, but they all have something in common that they’re real and I’m the hero. What they finally find is an artifact where they talk about different anecdotes and everything in a humorous tone.
What kind of change happened in the transition from gesture theater to a theater play where you don’t shut up for a minute?
This is a delicate step, because gesture and silence have worked for 40 years. Therefore, suddenly speaking there was a certain risk and a certain anxiety. But he was convinced that I could do it, and now he has confirmed it with the success of this show and the reactions from the audience. Wherever I go, the public has a great time and so do I. We don’t stop laughing.
How do you achieve this success in humor?
An obsession for us while on Tricicle was that the audience didn’t go 5 seconds without laughing. I continue to follow that rule for this show and it seems to be achieving it. Although this was a challenge, I am very pleased with how we accomplished it.
What opinions do the people convey to you, do they enjoy the work?
Yes, from the very first moment. One of my concerns was that once you’re in a place in this country artistically, it’s very difficult for people to push you away. This was one of the points that scared me a bit when I started the project, but now I’ve already confirmed that the public is instantly addicted and we were trapped in each other from the very beginning.
Why are you expressing yourself humorously?
Humor is a part of my life, I have lived from it and I think of nothing but in its own terms. In the game, once they start laughing, it’s nonstop.
“Finally Alone!” Will we find most of the Tricicle?
Of course, she’s very present throughout the show because somehow I also tell the story of the company. I talk about how we met, what situations we got into these 40 years, how they licked our ears in Japan, or how I took part in ridiculous stunts on airplanes because I was afraid of flying for a long time. . Writer Josep Pla used to say that what people love most about stories is the anecdote, what the public will see. But they will meet not only the wars, but also the person who lived them, namely me. These are fun and real adventures and people really enjoy it.
Can anyone move us forward before we see the job?
Anecdotes told out of context are not half as funny as what I tell in the show and how I tell it. So I encourage the public to come and have fun on stage, they don’t look the same.
What was it like to return to the theater without Paco Mir and Joan Gràcia after 40 years of being together?
Challenge. It’s kind of a risk to risk all or nothing because taking on your own adventure after all these years and constant success with Tricicle. And although I wanted to relativize it, I needed this project to turn out well.
Did you achieve the victory you expected?
The truth is, I’m happy right now because I think I’ve accomplished that. But also because each of the three somehow flew up to their side to do their projects on their own, even though we kept doing things together from time to time. This work gives me great satisfaction because it is a confirmation that I can do theater alone and in speech, which I have never met since I started professionalism.
How can humor be better expressed with that gesture theater that Tricicle is an expert on, or that can speak and speak the spoken language as well as in this work?
There are many ways to make humor, it depends on the media you use. Word is the king tool, you can do anything with it. But despite this, we spent 40 years on stage without paying any attention to this word, and we even made millions of spectators laugh because of it. It shows that I am making the audience have a good time, both gestural and verbal, with the show, the combination of these two things.
Will we see Tricicle together on stage again?
Perhaps exceptionally. We think about it because when the pandemic came, it was 3 weeks until the last goodbye. He had to take a break from functions due to the health crisis and now we are considering the possibility of having a farewell pass in Barcelona maybe 5-6 am and we are still working on it, we will announce when the time comes. .
