Concerts, parades and various animations will once again fill the streets of the city of Elche to promote popular culture. Elx al Carrer will launch a new edition on the weekend of September 9-11, after taking a break due to the health crisis, according to a statement from the organization.
The event will feature performances from different disciplines such as dance, theatre, percussion or breakdance, distributed throughout the city and Elche neighborhoods. However, the programming is not yet closed. Although the festival has participation areas such as volunteering for the management and organization of the event, pre-registration will be required on the website. It will also include the “Micros Abiertos” initiative, the musical shuttle, an open and participatory stage where local artists can show their work, small format (acoustic) groups, singer-songwriters and poets.
It has been two years since the festival could not be held due to covid, and this “14.5 edition” baptized by the organization (Asociación Viu Elx al Carrer) is a bridge between the “fourteenth”. A new edition with all the complete programming that will be held before the pandemic and will take place next year.
“We will build a bridge between the fourteenth and fifteenth editions that will take us from where we left off to what else we need to do,” they say from the association itself.
With this year’s event, its organizers hope to restore the illusion and reactivate a festival of great depth in the city in collaboration with Elche City Council’s L’Escorxador, Visit Elx, Environment, Youth and Culture Elx.
Elx al carrer is a festival inspired by the likes of FiraTarrega, Edinburgh Fringe and Avignon Festival, and is a cultural expression that uses the street as a landscape, adapting artistic work to context. Musical events, theatre, performance, juggling and various representations of the arts take to the streets as a form of artistic expression and protest.
