Chuck Woolery, the first host of the popular American show Wheel of Fortune, where the Russian “Field of Miracles” was created, died at his home in Texas. This was reported by his friend and co-host of the Blunt Force Truth podcast, Mark Young. Bloomberg.
Woolery, 83, passed away surrounded by his family and his wife, Kristen. He left three children.
Chuck Woolery was born in Ashland, Kentucky. After serving in the US Navy, he began his music career, playing double bass in a folk trio and then forming the psychedelic rock duo The Avant-Garde in 1967 while working as a truck driver.
Wheel of Fortune first aired on NBC on January 6, 1975, and paired Woolery with Susan Stafford. However, a few years later, when he requested an annual salary of $500,000, he was replaced by meteorologist Pat Sajak, who runs the program to this day.
