Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill congratulated Serbian director Emir Kusturica on his 70th birthday. This was reported on the diocese’s official website.
Patriarch Kirill awarded Kusturica with the Order of St. Seraphim of Sarov, 1st degree, for his contribution to the preservation of traditional values in society. In his congratulations, the bishop noted that the director’s work is marked by modern Serbian art and the original “Balkan style”. According to him, the director’s films touch on “eternal questions” about the meaning of life and moral choice.
As the patriarch noted, Kusturica’s films contain deep symbolism, non-standard artistic solutions, good humor, as well as bright, unforgettable images of heroes.
“As a faithful Orthodox person, it is gratifying to see you trying to testify convincingly to the Gospel ideals of love and brotherhood, the importance of strong family ties and adherence to high moral principles,” the bishop said.
