Russian ballerina Liepa talked about the demolition of her father’s monument in Latvia: “The smart ones would be proud”

Russian People’s Artist ballerina Ilze Liepa stated that they will demolish the monument of her father Maris Liepa in Riga. The dancer’s words are quoted kp.ru.

The statue stands next to the Latvian National Opera. According to Liepa, the monument was created by a trendy installation artist. It is made in the so-called avant-garde style, so it looks “terrible and miserable”. The ballerina recalled how she talked to the mayor of Riga so that the monument would not be associated with the name of her father, but the dancer did not listen.

“And today the Latvian authorities decided to dismantle the monument themselves due to the political situation. <…> What can you say: Smart people are proud that Maris Liepa is their fellow countryman, born in Riga. “I would only be happy if this ugly monument was demolished,” he said.

Ilze Liepa also admitted that she stopped communicating with her Latvian relatives. This was because the ballerina offered to introduce her children to their heirs. The artist said that after this innocent statement, he heard a “scolding” from his relatives and then decided to refuse to communicate with them.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda in March deprived Ballerina Ilze Liepa was granted citizenship of the country for her words supporting Russia.

Later, Liepa commented on the news that he was deprived of Lithuanian citizenship, saying: statedthat he made his choice in favor of the Russian Federation.
