“Switched” to another job
Sergey Brilev wrote about his dismissal on his Facebook page (the company that owns Meta was considered an extremist organization). On July 24, the journalist will celebrate his 50th birthday. On the eve of the anniversary, he decided to summarize the tentative results of his career. Brilev complained that he had reached such a “serious turning point”, having only received the title of “candidate of historical sciences.” He noted that his doctoral thesis had already been written.
According to Brilev, sitting in an airplane seat in 2013, while working on the programs entrusted to him, “with all his love for reporters,” Brilev felt that he was “great but tired of rereading other people’s texts.” He realized that he wanted to “write and assemble thoughtfully and comprehensively” “his own” works.
“Everything came together at the end of this year. At the start of the season I celebrated 20 years of being a host on 9/11 (much more?!) I was there, why was I put on the title of assistant manager? After that, I finally moved on to work where I seemed to have really rare knowledge and skills,” Brilev wrote.
The TV presenter said that after the last issue of Vesti, she arranged a business trip to Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay and Ecuador. He decided to “show on the screen” these countries’ “special perspective” on “what’s going on” in the world. At the same time, the journalist noted that the countries of Latin America are not a foreign territory for him. According to open sources, he was born in the capital of Cuba, then lived for a long time in Ecuador and Uruguay. He graduated from the Montevideo Institute of Foreign Languages, in addition to the MGIMO International Faculty of Journalism.
During his business trip, Brilev shot 33 special reports and mini-films. He considers such a result a “good figure”. The TV presenter announced on Sunday that her documentary “The World Divide”, which she shot in Latin America, will be released. The journalist promised to produce two more tapes by the end of the year, in Russian and Spanish, shot “for immediate Russian and Latin American broadcasts”.
“Hours of live work is objectively not for me: of course, I did live broadcasts from the same Latin America, but such broadcasts lasted a few minutes. If we talk about long working times, then it’s time to switch to written formats: films, special reports, ”explained Brilev.
The journalist added that he returned to Moscow at the end of April. But he had to “work from a hospital bed” due to illness. He had surgery on May 4 and then went into rehabilitation for several weeks. By the middle of the month he had a high fever, after which Brilev “got an infection”. But now he is “recovering” and can travel by plane again.
breakup rumors
Brilev stopped running Vesti on Saturday, just after the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. There were rumors in the media that he left the air, because he has dual citizenship – Russia and Great Britain. (The journalist mentioned his second citizenship in 2018 on his Facebook page).
But the TV presenter denied the rumors, saying that on March 15 she continues to work at the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company and is on a business trip.
“I am in Brazil tonight, flying from Emirates and Armenia. I just got on the air of Rossiya-24, now we need to continue preparing the shoot,” Brilev told TASS.
He added that he is working on a series of reports on the reaction of different countries to the events in Ukraine.
On March 31, it became known that the UK placed the TV presenter on the sanctions list as a person who “represents Russian propaganda and the state media who spread lies and deception about Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine”.
