New Mexico Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey has written a letter to the judge in Alec Baldwin’s case asking him to reconsider his decision to drop charges against the actor. This was reported by Associated Press.
In July, a court barred the reopening of the case against the star, citing police and prosecutors’ abuses in withholding evidence. It turned outHe said police had registered the ammunition under a different case number than the “Rust” case, so Baldwin’s lawyers did not have access to that evidence.
In his appeal to the judge, Morrissey said Baldwin’s rights were not violated during the hearing and stressed that the judge did not have enough evidence to dismiss the case.
Baldwin fired a gun loaded with live ammunition, not blanks, while filming Rust in 2021. The shooting injured camerawoman Galina Hutchins and director Joel Sousa. The director was released from the hospital a few hours later; Hutchins did not survive.
Baldwin case stopped in July 2024, and now plans to sue Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza and special prosecutor Kari Morrissey for allegedly deliberately withholding evidence in his favor.
