Showman Maxim Galkin (known in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent) filed a complaint with the Supreme Court of Russia against the refusal to remove him from the register of foreign agents. This is reported by DEA News with reference to the court’s press service.
“The court received a complaint from Maxim Aleksandrovich Galkin. The date of the meeting has not yet been determined, the agency source said.
At the end of May, the Second Court of Cassation General Judiciary rejected Galkin’s request to be removed from the register of foreign representatives.
Galkin’s representative Ekaterina Zuban later stated that the Justice Ministry’s decision violated her client’s rights and freedoms. She stressed that Galkin had never engaged in political activities, and his criticism of state institutions could not be considered as such. According to her, the showman “never received any organizational or financial support from Ukraine or other countries”, and no one determined the subject of his performances.
Last summer, Galkin’s representative also tried to remove him from the list of foreign agents, but the Zamoskvoretsky court supported the Russian Justice Ministry’s position, and the appeal confirmed this decision.
The showman appealed to the Supreme Court.
Galkin publicly condemned the special military operation and moved to Israel with his family in 2022. In September of the same year, the Justice Ministry added the showman to the foreign agent registry, stating that he was financed from Ukraine and “conducted political activities.” Since then, he has only given concerts abroad.
Formerly the Ministry of Justice Not found Reasons to recognize Pugacheva as a foreign agent.
