The head of the Mitki art group Dmitry Shagin claimed that his painting “Mitki 91” and the mention of his name on the stand were removed from the exhibition at the St. Petersburg Manege due to the denunciation. His words were reported by RBC. Telegram channel.
The artist said, “Most likely, some kind of tip-off was made against me, and I think this decision was made based on that tip.”
According to Shagin, he first learned about the removal of his painting from the exhibition in the Manege from journalists. The director of the exhibition hall Anna Yalova later told him that the canvas was taken for restoration because of the hole in it.
“I told him I could fix it myself, but he avoided answering,” the painter explained.
Shagin later learned that his name had been blurred on the exhibition’s information stand, photos with him had been removed, and the artist’s name had disappeared from the press release. The organizers called the incident a mistake and noted that they had blurred not only his name, but also many other participants.
“Yesterday they sent me a photo of the new stand, I was already removed from the list of exhibitors and those two names that were blurred out are there,” Shagin said.
The painting “Mitki 91” was painted in 1991. It refers to real events – the coup that took place in Moscow in August of the same year.
