“Dear ladies and gentlemen, dear friends, today, on the 225th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, it is my great honor to open the Day of the Russian Language at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. ” said the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to UNESCO, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Rinat Alyautdinov.
Alyautdinov described the role of the Russian language as a link in the exchange of ideas, economic and cultural achievements as important for access to the cultural sphere of Russian civilization.
“We believe that the celebration of the Day of the Russian Language will contribute to the development of international humanitarian cooperation and mutual understanding,” he said.
The celebration is held with the joint initiative of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. While opera singer Elena Maksimova performed for the guests, dance and music groups from different countries also performed.
