Sean Baker’s film Anora received a 7.5-minute standing ovation after its premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. This was reported by Variation.
The film tells the story of a Brooklyn prostitute who manages to marry Vanya, the son of a Russian oligarch. The young wife’s parents are trying to dissolve their son’s marriage after learning about their bride’s origin.
Russian stars such as Yura Borisov, Mark Eidelstein and Daria Ekamasova star in the film. One of the main male roles went to Eidelstein, who played the oligarch’s son Vanya.
As Variety noted, Baker’s film was accompanied not only by applause at the end of the broadcast. The audience applauded many times throughout the two-hour film.
