In Ilya Uchitel’s “The Flying Ship”, a live-action version of Harry Bardin’s cartoon of the same name based on a Russian folk tale (a magnificent 18-minute musical on the theme “We played in capitalism and that’s enough”), the corresponding subtext is revealed is having a hard time. However, otherwise this is a rather unbearable picture, as if combining two sub-trends in the current wave of expensive family films – adaptations of Russian folk tales and live-action remakes of Soviet animated musicals (the latter clearly borrowed from Disney).

The first team at the box office in the fall was the film “At the Command of the Pike” with the brawler Nikita Kologriv in the title role – an absurd and stupid picture, but it was worth doing if only for the sake of it. For an artist named Ershova to play Pike. For the sake of a highly entertaining self-revelation: the stranger is evil anyway, but we’ll play “Aladdin”. In general, it will suit the ear.

The second camp on the screens during the New Year holidays, ideologically neutralized and therefore not evoking such strong emotions, was represented by Alexei Nazhny’s “Bremen Town Musicians”, an adaptation of rock and roll cartoons from the footsteps of a fairy tale. You should be more concerned about the mental health of the people who will be funding this cash. The dance numbers are shot with masterful melancholy, and the soundtrack conveys the heartwarming atmosphere of a drunken taxi ride in a southern resort, and the radio plays ungodly – no, it can’t be turned off, the button is broken. The sound component as a whole is not devoid of interesting ideas (for example, making the blues from “Vodyanoy’s Song” is humorous in its own way), but at the performance level the film is designed in such a way that something will flow through everyone one way or another while watching it.

With the exception of Polina Gagarina, who sits in a cage for almost the entire film, but towards the end she frees herself and, even worse, sings, Metelkin and Tracer in the main roles seem to be the weakest link in the acting ensemble. Without them, everything seems to bloom: Kozlovsky and Ukolova grimace delightfully, Garmash is comically melancholic, Yarmolnik and Dobronravov tremble charmingly in a double program – in an ideal situation, I would like a movie entirely about the last two, it would be fun Political satire.

But our situation is far from ideal, and “The Flying Ship,” for all its dazzling diversity, is a document of the period. The producers emphasize that filming was completed before February 24, 2022 (which feels like a decade ago; there is no other way to explain the “Air Horn” sound effect when Burkovsky’s character appears) and therefore claims regarding individual actors will not be accepted. accepted.

In practice, this means that the names of the unrecognizable Kozlovsky and Ksenia Rappoport, whose face is hidden under a mask, are simply erased from the film (such is Schrödinger’s cinema) and are only miraculously present in Burkovsky’s original. However, everything here is equally a blunder: in fact, the flying ship is mentioned only at the end of the second act – and it serves not as an end, but as a means, and hence the meaning of the name “Flying Ship” is irrevocably lost.

On the other hand, the posters mostly say “Flying Ship”; Maybe the soft sign has also fallen out of favor, it’s a bit hard to follow.
