Case details

According to TASS, Safonov was accused of extorting 2 million rubles from a top manager of Rostec. The investigation believes that Safonov, together with another defendant, Stanislav Deineko, threatened to publish inappropriate information on the Nebrekhnya Telegram channel if Brovko did not pay. The defendants denied any wrongdoing.

This is not the first extortion case filed against Brovko. In the spring of 2023, the administrators of the Telegram channels “Project Scanner” and Riddle (Vladislav Malushenko, Evgeniy Moskvin and Alexey Slobodenyuk) were sent to a colony for eight years. The prosecutor’s office found that they extorted 470 thousand rubles from a senior manager and TV presenter to eliminate negative information.

At the beginning of February 2024, in a similar case, the administrator of the Telegram channel “Kremlin Mamkoved” Stanislav Sadovov was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison.

What is known about the director of Lenfilm

Fedor Shcherbakov was born on November 11, 1979 in Moscow. He received higher education at the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University. He worked as an editor at Channel One and as a manager at the commercial communications agency of the Interfax group.

In 2004, he served as assistant to the Russian government’s chief of staff, Dmitry Kozak. Secondly, after being appointed as the plenipotentiary representative of the President of Russia in the Southern Federal District, Shcherbakov held the post of press secretary of the plenipotentiary. In 2007, Kozak became Russia’s Minister of Regional Development, while Shcherbakov became his assistant in charge of interaction with the media.

From 2008 to 2009 he worked as an advisor to the head of the Olimpstroy group of companies, which was engaged in the construction of Olympic facilities in Sochi. In 2010 he became deputy governor of the Volgograd region. He was interested in the investment development issues of the region. Between 2012 and 2019, he worked as a consultant in North Caucasus Holiday Villages and Russian Railways companies.

In 2016, he founded and manages the Novye Izvestia and Rosbalt agency, as well as the 1MI media holding; also includes Oil and Capital, Agroinvestor and around 30 publications in total.

He took over as general manager of Lenfilm on September 8, 2020. Before that, this position was held by Inessa Yurchenko (she took the post in February 2020). Fontanka named Shcherbakov’s possible successors as State Duma deputy Sergei Boyarsky, director and producer Artem Mikhalkov (son of Nikita Mikhalkov) and director Nikita Vladimirov (grandson of Alisa Freundlich).
