The court punished the Volgograd cinema for showing the film “Oppenheimer”, which the Russian Ministry of Culture admitted was contrary to traditional values. This was reported by V1.ru.
Mori Cinema Volga LLC, 14.58 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation. He was found guilty of violating the article (“Renting films and (or) showing films without a distribution certificate”) and was fined 50 thousand rubles. At the same time, the decision states that the court decision has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
The publication adds that Christopher Nolan’s film was shown three times during the day in just one cinema in Volgograd. This film, as elsewhere, was sold through a “pre-show service”. The court found a violation against the cinema at the end of 2023. Representatives of Mori Cinema tried to dismiss the case due to lack of evidence. However, according to the V1.ru source, one of the evidence that the film was shown in cinemas was an article written by its correspondent.
“Oppenheimer” is a film about the creator of the atomic bomb, created by “Inception” director Christopher Nolan. The Russian Ministry of Culture did not issue rental certificates to “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” due to their “inconsistency with Russian moral values.”
