Director Toby Haynes will direct a new film based on the science fiction series Star Trek. This was reported by Hollywood reporter.
Seth Grahame-Smith will write the script for the project. He is known for his novels Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The film will be set decades before the events of JJ Abrams’ Star Trek. The film will be an extension of the original universe, and Abrams will executive produce the project.
Toby Haynes has previously worked on projects such as Doctor Who, Sherlock, Being Human and Black Mirror.
JJ Abrams’ remake of Star Trek was released in 2009 and is set in an alternate universe of the original series. It shows the development of James Tiberius Kirk, captain of the starship Enterprise, and his crew.
Cast: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Leonard Nimoy.
The reboot’s final film, Star Trek Beyond, was released in 2016. The film is directed by Justin Lin and written by Simon Pegg, Doug Jang, Roberto Orci, John D. Payne and Patrick Macke.
