the future sketch animal welfare Announcing that they will finally come to light next year, it includes a decatalogue of potentially dangerous breeds and establishes that animals will be considered potentially dangerous only if their character advises them to do so.

Until that happens, what we have now is the same thing that has been with us for years. This is Law 50/1999 of 23 December regulating the Regime of Possession of Potentially Dangerous Animals and subsequently developed by Royal Decree 287/2002 and different regional regulations.

To understand the genesis of this entire arrangement must be put in the right context. You see, in the late 1990s there were a series of very serious animal attacks on people, especially children. The problem, frankly, wasn’t the dogs, it was the type of people looking for that particular type of dog. I remember visiting numerous television sets around the country in those years and saying earlier that many people who were not responsible for having a small cockroach as a pet preferred dogs like rottweilers or pit bulls, which was not the case. They are necessarily more dangerous than others, but frankly, they are territorial and hierarchical animals of great power and size.

To the above and if that wasn’t enough, another scourge that was so common at the time was added, fateful dogfights.

As a result of these sad years, the aforementioned law was born, which in practice stigmatized certain breeds as potentially dangerous.

What awaits us in the future? Nobody knows for sure. Avoid talking about potentially dangerous dogs if the aforementioned plan goes ahead. potentially dangerous owners. I don’t know if this will serve to solve such a complex problem, but of course, what is clear is that this terminology describes the real situation much better.
