A large-scale art project “Light and Air. Traditions of impressionism in Soviet painting.” This was reported by the Manege press service.
“For the first time in Russian exhibition practice, Soviet art is seen with the experience of cultural thought, taste and impressionist aesthetics,” say the organizers.
Artists whose works are included in the exhibition include Yuri Pimenov, Pyotr Williams, Igor Grabar, Boris Ioganson, Vladimir Lebedev, Robert Falk, Isaac Brodsky, Pyotr Osolodkov, Evsey Moiseenko and others. For the first time in St. Petersburg, paintings by writers who are excluded from scientific research – Alexander Isupov, Mikhail Demidov, Victor Mey, Irina Broydo, Elbey Rzakuliev and others will be shown.
“The exhibition destroys persistent stereotypes that have taken root in the minds of the total dominance of “socialist realism” devoid of any signs of life. Soviet masters, at least many of them, identified and solved their own creative problems by transforming social ideals into the energy of individual artistic talents and interests, into the language of pictorial poetry. Impressionism, its system of techniques, became for many Soviet masters a unique source of inspiration, a powerful impulse for inner liberation, for the expression of personal pictorial sensations and emotional moods,” says MISP director Marina Dzhigarkhanyan.
The exposition of the exhibition consists of four independent sections: landscape, portrait, study and entertainment, organized according to the themes presented.
The exhibition, which includes more than 100 works from 27 Russian museums, will open on December 18, 2023 at 18.00.
