Filming of the military drama continues in Kaluga, which portrays the Luhansk region of 2014 in the series adapted from Zakhar Prilepin’s book “Militia Romance”. This is reported on the website of the Internet Development Institute, where the project is supported.
“The military drama “Militia Romance” will show the ordinary everyday life of the Donbass war through individual episodes in the lives of the main characters. The literary basis of the series was the work of the same name by Zakhar Prilepin. Cast: Vladimir Steklov, Alexey Vertkov, Vitaly Kishchenko, Yusup Bakhshiev,” says the description of the series.
In the story, journalist Suvorov (Andrey Nazimov) goes to Donbass with a humanitarian cargo, but the real purpose of the journey is jealousy. He suspects that his wife has a connection with an acquaintance Lesentsov (Alexey Vertkov), who went to participate in the hostilities. The main character will have to rethink his life and worldview.
According to the general producer of the project, Dimitar Todorov, the literary basis of the series is “Zakhar Prilepin’s powerful work, which returns the reader to the tradition of Soviet front-line literature.”
“According to this tradition, behind global events that change the picture of the modern world, there are unknown heroes with their own destinies. “It is our main duty to draw portraits of these heroes,” said Todorov.
As Prilepin himself describes it, “Militia Romance” is “fourteen pieces” about the war in Donbass. A collection of short stories united by common characters, setting and time.
According to the director of the series, Oleg Lukichev, for him “Militia Romance” is a conversation about Russian identity, like Tolstoy in “Russian Character” or Sholokhov in “The Fate of a Man”.
“In the tragic events that take place in the background of the military drama, the true characteristics of human character are revealed. Together with Zakhar Prilepin, we answer the question: What does it mean to be Russian?” adds Lukichev.
People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Vladimir Steklov believes that although society as a whole understands the goals of the SVO and accepts them, for many the question still remains open – how did this conflict begin?
“Who were their characters? What motivated them? It’s very important to talk about this right now. Tell us who these men are and who they are, not in slogan language, but in simple human language. Unknown heroes of Donbass. Heroes of Russia,” says the actor.
The film will be released in Premier online cinema in 2024. The project is produced by Greenwich Production film studio.
