Director Steven Spielberg may begin shooting a remake of Bullitt starring Bradley Cooper next year. The portal reports this Reel World.
The publication emphasizes that the film is planned as a remake of the 1968 crime thriller rather than a remake. The plot will once again focus on Lieutenant Bullitt, played by Steve McQueen in the original film. But the story itself will be different. Plot details were not disclosed. The script of the project will be written by Josh Singer (“Spotlight”).
Actor Cooper will also serve as a producer on the upcoming film alongside Spielberg and Christy Macosko Krieger.
Spielberg is currently working on a biopic about composer John Williams, who wrote the scores for many famous Star Wars films, including The Imperial March, Harry Potter and ET. This movie takes up most of the director’s time, so he will be able to start the next project only in 2024.
The original Bullitt was an adaptation of Robert L. Pike’s novel Silent Witness. The film was directed by Peter Yates. The plot tells the story of San Francisco police officer Frank Bullitt, but the film is especially famous for its spectacular car chase scenes.
