In 2016, artists Pasha Kas and Pavel Mokich drew graffiti for the 74th anniversary of Kharms’ death. The lawsuit against the mural, which turned out to be an unauthorized drawing, lasted nearly five years. On October 26, 2021, the Dzerzhinsky District Court decided to paint a portrait of Kharms in the house where the writer lived for almost 15 years before his arrest in 1941.

In February, activists wrote that in the group “Central Zone for a Comfortable Living Environment” on the VKontakte social network, graffiti will be replaced by a light projection. According to them, “there was no legal possibility to preserve the mural.”

In 2021, human rights activists launched an online petition on the Change.org website demanding that the portrait not be allowed to disappear. Currently, about 32 thousand people signed it. Hermitage director Mikhail Piotrovsky and St. Petersburg’s former governor, Georgy Poltavchenko, also demanded that the image be preserved.
