KALEIDOSCOPE, an audiovisual artistic work from the Magic series shot entirely with an HONOR smartphone, was chosen by photographer Eugenio Recuenco in 2022 “Better film mobile” inside Toronto Independent Film Festival Double It was recently held in Toronto.
Eugenio Recuenco, one of the world’s most important international fashion and advertising photographers, creates a work in which he presents a contemporary vision of the myth of Narcissus, which provides inspiration to create an allegory about reunion.
This story from Greek mythology talks about hubris, the impossibility of seeing beauty beyond your own reflection; So much so that Narcissus drowned while looking at himself in the water.
Recuenco sees mobile photography as an important tool for art and expression in people’s lives in general. For the photographer, this technique, together with videography, allows him to continue his pursuit of perfection through creativity with the support of technology, thus allowing people to develop their virtues.
Under these premises, the story of KALEIDOSCOPE emerges. Etymologically, the name of the film is a combination of two Greek words: “Kalos”, meaning beauty; and “Eidos” meaning form. Kaleidoscope is a way of looking. It is an object that contains a magical concept within itself: it allows you to create beautiful images that go beyond reality from the reflection and combination of glass pieces. And that’s exactly what the job offers; a kaleidoscopic vision of the Narcissus myth that combines all the pieces in the coming together/coming together moments of the different women featured in the film. KALEIDOSCOPIO is an example of how myths can be perceived in different ways. At every turn of the kaleidoscope, we can find beauty in different forms, far beyond a single reflection.
